A few years back, I watched Gerry Marshall’s “New Year’s Eve”. To those who don’t know the movie, it’s like a “Love Actually” or a “Valentine’s Day” but with the theme of celebrating the New Year. To those who still don’t know what I’m talking about, it’s basically a series of mini stories, a multi plot, that is eventually revealed to be connected to each other in the end. It’s a feel good movie that will surely warm hearts, slap your face with all them feels, and just generally give you realizations about the different facets of your life.
The only reason why I even made a half-assed effort at describing the movie to you is because since the very first time I watched it, I had a secret dream of wanting to be Hilary Swank’s character. Hilary Swank’s character (excuse the mouthful phrase. I forgot her character’s name haha) is in charge of the whole ball drop party in Times Square, New York. It was only one of those shallow dreams, one you fantasize about but never thought it could ever come true. But this year, I was assigned by my boss to one of our New Year’s Eve events (we had three, two in Valkyrie and one in Philippine Arena). I was given Valkyrie’s New Year’s Eve Countdown Party…
It was absolutely perfect!! I was hitting three birds with one stone!! That’s an instant three checks off my bucketlist! *Taking a peek at my bucketlist* Number 1, I was finally going to celebrate at a club for a New Year’s Eve countdown party. Being born on the first of January simply makes it all the more harder for my very clingy family to ever release me: “You can’t celebrate outside during New Year! You’re supposed to be with family!!” Haha. Number 2, it’s kind of sadistic but I’ve always wondered what it’s like to work on your birthday. I never had the “luxury” of experiencing it because my special day is a holiday celebrated around the world! Number 3, never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect that I would get to be Hilary Swank in “New Year’s Eve”. It may be a way way downscale from a Times Square balldrop, but still. I was going to be part of the team who was going to throw the New Year’s Eve countdown party at the current best club in Manila! *cue happy dance and confetti*
Last year, I spent my birthday in Europe with my family and special person. That was my best birthday ever and I didn’t think that my next one was going to top it. But based on the night’s shenanigans, plus three checks off my bucketlist, it pretty much did. :) There was a lot of crazy and lots of stress for the night, but I was too happy to even give in to any negative feels. I was so happy I was still smiling even when I went home at 1pm. Where by the way, I didn’t get to sleep anymore cause I was with family immediately afterwards. Weird unplanned bonus? A date at night with a new friend from Australia, after dinner with family. HAHA. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to start my year. :”) Started 2015 on a high, now please… Note to self: You already know what to do. Get to it, ya bish.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!! May 2015 be a year of more memories that’ll make you smile when you look back on it. :)
