Usually, I share the stories of inspiring souls and show a picture of the sole that best represents their character. This time, however, I have crossed paths with an inspiring soul that has his own designed sole that sells internationally! Meet Jayson Atienza, a Filipino-born New York-native who has found success and happiness in the pursuit of his passion: ART.
The reason why I was able to meet him in the first place is because of a writing assignment for Inquirer 2bU (Lifestyle section). So thank you so much Sir Luis for another great opportunity! :D
I was set to interview and write a feature on one of Bucketfeet’s artists– Jayson Atienza.
The delightful thing about it is that Jayson happens to be a Filipino! An even better fact about him is that he had not a single diva bone in his body, which is quite strange considering I got to interview him and pick his brain, and I conclude that he is one of the most inspiring people I’ve ever met.
Jayson Atienza is currently based in Shanghai with his wife but he was at Alabang Town Center that day to live paint a mural for the Bucketfeet pop up store. He hasn’t been in the Philippines in years, but he decided to go here for vacation. Even though his crazy schedule of personal art mixed with the crazy of the advertising world, he still managed to squeeze in doing something special for Bucketfeet Philippines.
Upon arriving at town, I didn’t even frigging realize that the man clad in a plain sando, shorts, slippers and a cap, was the same man I was so intimidated to meet! Before coming, I had brushed up on my research of Jayson Atienza, which made me think that it was a mistake to research in the first place… Cause it left me with a feeling of GREAT intimidation. He was SO SUCCESSFUL and SO TALENTED and SO INTERNATIONAL. I was worried how I was going to be able to face a man I was so inspired by… However, the more I got to see and talk to Jayson Atienza, the more amazed I was. It was SCORCHING HOT and yet he continued to paint without any complaint whatsoever. It’s official… This guy is a hardworking, determined, passionate soul who was just doing what he loved and doing it the best he could. Thereby backing up the notion that to be great, one must only have to do what one loves.
Trust me, his story is worth reading. From his origin to his accomplishments, this man has SO MUCH to boast of and yet in person, he is so devastatingly humble. A sneak peek? His accomplishments include working for BBDO New York with big brands like HBO/Budweisser/etc, working as Nike’s Creative Director and even starring in a John Legend commercial for Chevrolet. Another great inspiring Beautiful Sole that walks this earth. With the added twist of anyone being able to purchase his soles on Bucketfeet! :P
